PRAYER, PRAYER AND MORE PRAYER

What the Bible says:   Philippians 4:6,7

Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God.  And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Have you ever been around someone, maybe a child that always wants something? There you are, watching a really good movie or reading an intriguing article that really has your attention and the interruptions keep coming. After awhile, it really gets to you and enough is enough.

I have wondered if the Lord ever feels like that with us. Many times our prayers are selfish. We talk to God only about what he can do for us. We tell him what we want, making a list and checking it twice. We have a tendency to tell him our needs as if he is our heavenly Santa. We say, “I want this,” and “I want that”.

We need to refine and mature our prayer life every day. Our prayer life is simply our communication with God.

The beautiful thing about being able to communicate with God is that it comes in many ways. It can be on our knees or in the quietness of a moment.  While he does care about the things we need, we can have times with Him that reach beyond the cares of this world and connect with just Him. The quietness of the moment; the people we feel most comfortable with is the ones we do not need to always have a conversation with. A quiet evening at home, knowing each other is there. A ride in the car, no need for words, you are keeping each other company.

The scripture is clear, yes, we are to bring our needs, wants and desires to Him in prayer and when we do, He has made available His peace that this world cannot understand.  How God longs for us to lay everything at His feet, quiet our soul and just spend a little time with Him.
