What Have I To Do With You?
This year is quickly coming to a close.
I believe one of the noted events of this year was when our government issued
the stimulus’ checks. That was an unprecedented event. Just think, the
government gave US money. With the announcement of
your “free” and “extra” money, so the question came. “What are
you going to do with it?”
It seems that there is always something we need to do something with.
Whether it’s money, or, your children.
If you have children you may remember when he was a baby. When screams
began, everything stopped and the
search began to find anything that would stop the crying , if you have ever
experienced a upset baby, you know its no holds barred; stop the crying. The
little one, generally is not going to stop on his own, you have to do something
with him.
We make decisions about what we do with people all the time. We could be faced
with a small decision about whether to help someone or it could be an all out
attention getter like a screaming baby. We
make decisions all the time about people.
So many times they are connected to our value system.
If we like the person, well, we are more apt to go out of our way for
them. But if we don’t, it is their
tough luck. Being Christians, we should always treat each other with honor and
respect. The bible goes as far even to say in Philippians 2:3 “but in lowliness of mind let each esteem each others better than
themselves.” It is
what we choose to do with the people around us.
There is one
person in particular that we choose what
to do with him. It determines volumes not only is this side of eternity, but
also on the other. As if you don’t
know, of course, it is Jesus. Everyday decide what to do with Him. As it says in
Joshua 1, “Choose you this day whom you will serve.”
Every day we decide if He is really Lord of our
lives by our decisions and priorities. What do we do with Jesus. In the book of
Matthew, just before our Lord’s death, there were people that had to decide
what to do with Him. In particular there was Judas. This man had been so close
to Him. He walked, ate, traveled and
shared everyday life with him. Even being with Jesus, sometimes every waking
moment, who he was got lost
in
the everyday. Judas knew who he was, but he really didn’t know who He was. Judas
didn’t realize that Jesus was the son of God until it was too late. See, being
with Jesus and just hanging around became a way of life. Judas took for granted
the access he had to Jesus; the words of wisdom, the power of God, even the
miracles. He became used to what he had and didn’t value it. Well, not until
it was too late. Too late when he tried to undo the betrayal by giving back the
money. Too late when he realized that he traded the Son of God, the best friend
he had ever had for what he thought profited him. My friend, let us learn the
lesson from Judas. Let us not take our position in Christ, our access to Him,
our best friend, for the things in this world that seems so important now. Only
to find that when shown in the light of eternity, that we also sold out the Son of God, our best friend and
Savior for the silver in our lives that we are reaching for today. It is much
better to consider today what we value. Considering
the price we put on things and most of all the people in our lives today.
So as Jesus was asked so many years ago, What have I to do with you? Let us
today see with the eyes of our understanding that what we do with Jesus today
will last for eternity.
